Monster Hunter Now, the geolocation giant, is celebrating its first anniversary with a bang. Limited-time quests, a brand-new Season, new monsters, an additional weapon type, and a Streamer Mode have been introduced to mark this milestone.
In its first year, Monster Hunter Now has achieved impressive financial success, generating close to $225 million in gross revenue according to AppMagic estimates. The game quickly secured the second-place spot among Niantic’s titles, with only Pokémon Go ahead of it.
Despite some initial success, Monster Hunter Now faced challenges in maintaining momentum, prompting Niantic to introduce new monetization strategies. The game started with a soft stamina system that required players to be above a certain health threshold to participate in hunts, but this evolved over time with the introduction of a Season Pass and limited hunts at real-world locations called Hunt-a-thons.
The game’s revenue spikes have been fueled by new updates, events, and collaborations, such as the recent partnership with Mr. Beast. On the horizon, players can expect more content, including monsters from Monster Hunter Rise, new weapons, and a cooking minigame.
Niantic has prioritized player feedback and innovation to keep Monster Hunter Now engaging and profitable. With the game’s second year underway, the future looks bright for this evolving geolocation adventure.
