We have gained insights into the enhancements brought by Guerrilla Games and Nixxes to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. A recent PlayStation blog post has provided detailed information on the improvements made to make the game world livelier.
Nixxes senior technical game designer Brian van Nunen mentioned that one way they achieved this was by adding more NPCs in villages, cities, and outposts, thanks to the enhanced power of PlayStation 5. These NPCs now have more varied schedules and move around more realistically.
Transitioning from the original Zero Dawn to its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, the developers maximized the capabilities of PS5 over PS4, resulting in more vibrant city scenes and increased NPC activities.
To further enhance the lifelikeness of NPCs, Nixxes made improvements to “skin tones, hair quality, and outfits,” drawing inspiration from Forbidden West. These enhancements also extended to Aloy, receiving realistic peach fuzz treatment.
Nixxes senior technical artist Mark Bazelmans shared insights on the addition of new dialogue and mocap, with over 10 hours of new mocap recordings processed using a special Python tool developed by Nixxes. The post is filled with anecdotes on environmental, texture, and lighting improvements, making Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered a game to look forward to.
The game was announced earlier this year and is scheduled for release on October 31 on PS5 and PC.
