Honor of Kings, developed by Level Infinite, is now available in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, as well as Eastern Europe and South Asia. The announcement of its availability in MENA was made on February 21, 2023, marking its debut in the region since its initial release in 2015.
The game has garnered a significant player base of around 100 million, with its primary region being China. With its domination of the MOBA market and pioneering of loot boxes in games, Honor of Kings has gained recognition in the gaming industry. In addition, research firm Sensor Tower ranked it as the second-highest-grossing mobile game worldwide in December, following Monopoly GO. Although it initially struggled to gain traction outside of China when it was planned for release in 2017, the game has now found success in international markets.
Looking to replicate the game’s domestic success in international esports, Tencent has announced that Honor of Kings will participate in the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, offering a $3 million prize pool to 12 competing teams. With its growing gaming community, the MENA region provides a significant opportunity for Honor of Kings to increase its popularity, especially considering it is one of the few games featured in the first-ever Esports World Cup. The game also aims to solidify its second attempt at global expansion with plans to launch in North America, South America, and Western Europe later this year.
Moreover, with the Midseason Invitational event set to commence in August, Level Infinite represents Tencent’s effort to refine its global expansion strategy and further immerse itself in the world of esports.
