In February, miHoYo achieved great success with Honkai: Star Rail, as its revenue soared to $90.5 million on mobile alone, nearly doubling from the previous month’s $47.5 million.
This surge in revenue propelled Honkai: Star Rail ahead of Genshin Impact once again, showcasing a competitive race between the two titles. Genshin Impact, miHoYo’s older title, generated $89.8 million in February, marking a decline from the $99 million it earned in January.
The data, compiled by GachaRevenue with Sensor Tower data, highlights that the significant increase in spending on Honkai: Star Rail primarily came from Chinese gamers. In February, Chinese players contributed $60.5 million in in-game spending, compared to $27.5 million in January.
While Genshin Impact retained its lead outside of China, Honkai: Star Rail’s impressive growth in its home territory ultimately pushed it slightly ahead in worldwide earnings. The combined revenue from both games amounted to $180.3 million for miHoYo.
The success of Honkai: Star Rail can be attributed to its Version 2.0 update released in early February, introducing in-game events and new characters to entice player spending. Despite regaining the lead, the question remains whether Honkai: Star Rail can surpass Genshin Impact as the fastest game to reach $5 billion in consumer spending.
