Nintendo made headlines this week with the announcement of its latest hardware, but it wasn’t the anticipated Switch 2 – it was an alarm clock.
The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is a quirky product featuring scenes from popular Nintendo games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Ring Fit Adventure. Digital Trends got hands-on with the Alarmo shortly after its reveal, giving us a closer look at this unique device.
Out of the box, the Alarmo boasts preinstalled game-themed alarm packs with a total of 35 alarms available through a linked Nintendo account. It offers motion-sensing capabilities, increasing the alarm volume the longer you stay in bed, which can be silenced by moving your arms or getting out of bed. The device is designed for twin to king-size beds and should not be placed more than 8 inches above the bed for optimal motion detection.
The Alarmo’s design is distinctively Nintendo, featuring a bright-red plastic shell reminiscent of Mario’s iconic colors. It includes speaker slits on the sides, Nintendo branding on its rear, and a USB-C port for charging. While compact and lightweight, it lacks an internal battery, requiring a constant power source via USB-C cable.
Despite its size limitations, the Alarmo sports a user-friendly interface with buttons for navigation. A crown-like knob allows for adjusting settings, while a colorful display adds a playful touch to the overall design. The display, though somewhat deceptive in its round appearance, is rectangular with black edges to conceal its true shape.
While further testing is needed to assess its motion sensor performance, the Alarmo presents a charming and fun option for users, especially for children. Stay tuned for updates on how this gamified alarm clock could foster healthier morning habits.
Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo will be available widely in 2025, with early access for Nintendo Switch Online members.
