If you own an older Samsung Galaxy device from 2019, such as the Galaxy S10 or Galaxy Note 10, you might want to hold off on the latest update. Reports from 9to5Google suggest that these devices are getting bricked after the update.
Samsung has been improving its device support over the years, but issues like this have arisen. Some users have experienced their devices being bricked by the new update, necessitating a factory reset to resolve the issue.
This problem is affecting multiple users on social media platforms, especially Reddit, in the past few days. Users of the Galaxy S10 series (S10, S10 Plus, S10e, S10 Lite, S10 5G) and Galaxy Note 10 series (Note 10, Note 10 Plus, Note 10 5G) who have installed the recent update are experiencing bricked devices. The problem is also affecting the Galaxy M51 and Galaxy A90, although to a lesser extent.
Devices bricked by the update are stuck in a bootloop and are unable to fully turn on. The issue seems to stem from a faulty Samsung SmartThings Framework update rather than the full system update. Due to the device’s inability to boot up properly, rolling back the software is not an option.
To resolve this issue, a factory reset through Android recovery is required.
If you’re unfamiliar with performing a factory reset, you can do so by entering recovery mode on a Galaxy S10 or Galaxy Note 10 device. Follow the specific steps for each device to initiate the factory reset process.
While your data will be lost, the phone should function properly again. It’s likely that Samsung has withdrawn this update, so if you haven’t already updated, refrain from doing so. Additionally, consider disabling automatic updates to prevent similar issues in the future.
We hope Samsung releases a corrective update soon to address this issue and prevent any such incidents in the future.
