Hangry introduces a unique “hunger” mechanic that players must balance while playing. As Hangry gets hungrier, he becomes more violent and uncontrollable, adding an intriguing challenge to the gameplay.
The game emphasizes a delicate balance between satisfying Hangry’s hunger and retaining the viability of the creatures for meals, drawing inspiration from the Hulk for gameplay influence.
“We’re excited for players to sink their teeth into this game, pun intended,” said Mike Sorrenti, president of Game Pill. “Hangry offers a deep and rewarding experience for RPG fans, while remaining light-hearted and fun for anyone appreciating a tasty pun.”
Hangry focuses on a gameplay cycle of hunting, eating, and evolving. Players embark on hunts to gather ingredients, prepare meals to enhance their character, and unlock new abilities.
The inspiration
The concept of Hangry originated from a humorous anecdote shared by Sorrenti. The game portrays a character dealing with uncontrollable hunger, reflecting the internal struggle between primal instincts and civility.
“Hangry represents that insatiable hunger that alters your behavior,” Sorrenti explained. “Our sci-fi world revolves around food, exploring the protagonist’s cravings through exciting adventures.”
Hangry must hunt, cook, and eat to grow and uncover new abilities in this fantastical galaxy filled with monsters, robots, and culinary-themed planets.
“Our innovative Hangry Mode challenges players to balance hunger and rage, creating a dynamic gameplay experience,” Sorrenti added.
Origins
Sorrenti’s journey from a brand manager to co-founding Game Pill stemmed from a desire for creative freedom and meaningful impact in the industry. After years of experience, he and his wife Mary Sorrenti established Game Pill in 2008, transitioning from licensed games to original IP development.
Game Pill’s success and evolution reflect a commitment to originality and innovation, exemplified by their upcoming release, Hangry. With over 10 million play sessions and a dedicated team, Game Pill continues to push boundaries in the gaming industry.
To date, Game Pill has secured funding from Ontario Creates and the Canada Media Fund, enabling the company to expand its creative endeavors and make a mark in the gaming world. Mary Sorrenti’s commitment to industry advocacy and mentorship adds a unique dimension to Game Pill’s impact.
