SpotHero, a parking startup that allows drivers to reserve nearby parking spaces, announced a new partnership on Tuesday with Google. This collaboration integrates SpotHero’s service into Google Maps and Google Search, enabling users in the U.S. and Canada to book parking spots at over 8,000 locations.
The latest feature allows users to easily find parking near their destination and reserve it by clicking the “Book Online” button within both apps. This will lead them to the SpotHero website to complete their booking seamlessly without leaving Maps or Search. Users also have the option to reserve parking in advance and can filter for features like EV charging, wheelchair accessibility, and valet services.
Google’s partnership with SpotHero is significant as Google does not have its own parking reservation tool. While not the first parking integration, Google Maps has previously teamed up with ParkMobile to allow users to pay for parking directly through the app.
This integration is a major milestone for SpotHero, leveraging the extensive user base of Maps and Search, used by billions worldwide. SpotHero earns a 35% share from each reservation, as detailed on its website.
SpotHero serves over 10 million drivers in North America and is approaching $1.5 billion in parking reservations sold. In the previous year, the company partnered with Apple Maps to offer its parking solution to iPhone and Mac users.
Google continues to enhance its app functionality to keep users engaged. The latest announcement follows Google Maps adding details about destinations as drivers approach and guiding them to available parking spaces within or near the destination.
