Google has announced the expansion of Gemini Live in over 40 languages, making the conversational AI feature accessible globally. This update also allows the full Gemini AI to integrate with more Google apps in various languages.
Gemini Live is Google’s response to competitors like OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode and Meta’s Voice Interactions. This feature lets users interact with the AI in a conversational manner, eliminating the need for text-based prompts. Initially revealed during Google’s I/O 2024 event, Gemini Live was initially rolled out to Gemini Advanced subscribers in August and then made available to all Android users in September.
Previously limited to English, users can now engage with the AI in languages like French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, and Spanish, with additional languages set to be added in the upcoming weeks.
To access the new languages, simply open the Google app on your Android device, click on your profile picture, navigate to Settings > Google Assistant > Languages, and select the desired language(s).
Google is also integrating the Gemini model into more of its apps through Extensions, enabling the Gemini app to interact with other apps and retrieve information like real-time flight updates or location-based data to offer more precise responses. Initially available only in English, Extensions expanded to include Calendar, Tasks, Keep, and Utilities.
Google’s announcement promises further enhancements over the coming weeks, with a wider range of tools across different apps and languages, making tasks more efficient. You can now ask Gemini to retrieve a recipe from your Gmail and add it to your shopping list in Keep.
