Google Maps is rolling out some exciting new features that are set to enhance navigation for users. Following a recent redesign launched during Google I/O 2024, which introduced a cleaner home screen, new pin colors, and a more streamlined interface with three tabs instead of five.
The updates include enhancements for both Google Maps and Waze, both of which are owned by Google. In Google Maps, users will now receive additional guidance for entering buildings and finding parking spots conveniently.
When nearing your destination, Google Maps will highlight the building in red and use a green indicator to guide you towards the main entrance. In addition, Maps will display nearby parking spots to make parking hassle-free for drivers.
Google Maps will also introduce improved incident reporting across various platforms like Android, iOS, Android Auto, Apple Carplay, and cars with Google built-in. Users can report road closures, construction, speed cameras, and police presence with the help of larger icons for easy reporting.
Waze users will now have the ability to report new types of traffic cameras, providing alerts for bus or HOV lane enforcement cameras and those monitoring seat belt usage or texting while driving. This feature aims to provide users with comprehensive information to navigate efficiently.
Furthermore, Waze will provide a dedicated experience for event information, notifying users of road closures related to events such as marathons, sports events, or concerts. Users will receive push notifications for relevant road closures near their frequently visited locations.
Lastly, Waze will introduce a feature that enables navigation guidance even when the phone is locked, aiding in safe driving practices. This feature will be available globally on Android soon, followed by iOS in the fall.
