Upon encountering installation issues with the Wear OS 5 update, Google Pixel Watch and Google Pixel Watch 2 owners were temporarily stopped from updating their devices. Google pulled the rollout to address the concerns raised by users who experienced a blank display after installing the update. This move acknowledges the existence of the issue affecting many Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 users.
According to a Google spokesperson, “We’re aware of the issue affecting some Pixel Watch users, and in the meantime, we have paused the Wear OS 5 rollout and are actively working on a resolution.” Despite the setback, Wear OS 5 offers notable enhancements and new features when installed correctly. This update, based on Android 14, promises faster performance, improved Watch Faces, goal progress tracking, and various complication types. Additionally, users can expect new weather conditions and heart rate data sources.
Wear OS 5 also introduces detailed running metrics like ground contact time, stride length, vertical oscillation, and vertical ratio. The update features a grid-based app launcher similar to other Wear OS manufacturers, enhancing the overall user experience.
While the Pixel Watch 3 comes with Wear OS 5 preinstalled and has no reported issues, Google is set to release an update to address the problems faced by Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 users. Stay tuned for more updates on the availability of the upcoming update.
