Marc Whitten, a video game industry veteran and founding engineer at Xbox and Xbox Live, has been named as the new CEO of GM’s Cruise.
The CEO position at Cruise has been vacant since December, following a leadership reshuffle after an incident involving one of its robotaxis. Former CEO Kyle Vogt resigned as a result.
Starting on July 16, Whitten brings with him a wealth of experience in developing tech products, especially in the realm of video games. Previously, he held positions at Unity, Amazon, Sonos, and other tech companies.
Whitten expressed his excitement about joining Cruise, stating that he sees a great opportunity for transformation in the transportation industry to make it safer and more accessible for everyone.
Mo Elshenawy will continue serving as the president and Chief Technology Officer at Cruise, while Craig Glidden will now focus on Cruise as the president and chief administrative officer, as well as serving as an executive VP and strategic adviser at GM.
Additionally, Cruise has brought on Nick Mulholland, a former executive from Rivian, to lead its communications and marketing department.
