Competition in the email market is intensifying as Apple’s iOS 18 brings Gmail-like features to its Mail app, such as categorized emails and Smart Replies. In response, Google has announced enhancements for Gmail, including revamped “summary cards” to help users better organize and take actions in their inbox. These cards can track packages, check flight details, set reminders, mark bills as paid, and more.
Google’s summary cards visually organize information from related emails in categories like Purchases, Events, Bills, and Travel. This saves users time by providing important information like receipts, travel confirmations, and bills without the need to read through individual emails.
The new summary cards will offer quick access to essential information, such as package delivery dates, flight schedules, and bill due dates. Users can take actions like tracking packages, viewing orders, setting reminders, and more directly from these cards.
With dynamic summary cards that update in real-time, Gmail users can now do more with their inbox. The updated cards offer new actions like checking in for flights, setting bill pay reminders, and inviting others to events.
Gmail will also introduce a “Happening soon” section in users’ inboxes to organize timely summary cards for easy access. These cards will eventually be available in Gmail searches as well.
The feature will roll out starting on October 2 with purchase summary cards on iOS and Android. Users can expect additional summary cards and the “Happening soon” section for purchase-related emails in the coming month. Eventually, summary cards across all categories will be available in individual emails, the “Happening soon” section, and search.
