The Gmail experience on mobile devices is set to improve for many users with the addition of new features. Summary Cards, which extract useful information from emails and display it in a card format, are getting an upgrade.
Previously, Summary Cards only showed details related to package tracking or order information. Now, Google is introducing contextual action buttons to these cards. According to a Workspace update from Google, users can now expect improved organization of key information from related emails, as well as real-time status updates.
For example, if you have a package on the way, the Summary Card for that email will display buttons for tracking the package and viewing order details. Users will also see a real-time tracker bar showing the package’s location and logistics updates.
The updated Summary Cards feature is currently rolling out and will be available for Gmail app users on Android and iOS. To enable the feature, follow this path: Gmail > Menu > Settings > General > Smart features and personalization.
In the near future, Summary Cards will also support purchases, events, travel, and bills. Users can expect quick action buttons like “Remind me,” “Invite others,” and “Get directions.” A “Happening soon” section will be added to inform users about upcoming events.
Google is also introducing an AI-centric update to the Gmail app on iPhones with Gemini. This feature, known as Gmail Q&A, allows users to interact with their inbox using natural language queries. Gemini can summarize emails, pull up conversations about specific topics, and suggest next steps based on email content.
Currently, Gemini can only analyze email content, but future updates will allow it to look through Drive files as well. This feature is currently only available in English and restricted to paid Workspace accounts and Google One AI Premium subscribers.
Gemini in Gmail has received positive feedback and is considered a game-changer for many users, offering convenience and efficiency. The Gemini Extensions are also a valuable tool for summarizing documents and files quickly.
