Sucker Punch Productions made a thrilling announcement during the September 2024 State of Play presentation – the upcoming release of Ghost of Yotei, a sequel to the acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima from 2020. This highly anticipated game is set to launch on the PlayStation 5 in 2025.
Ghost of Yotei introduces a new protagonist, Atsu, a brave female hero, and is set in the year 1603, over three centuries after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. The game takes place on Mount Yotei, located in Ezo, known today as Hokkaido. This land, once outside Japan’s jurisdiction, offers diverse landscapes including grasslands and tundra. While the game diverts from the samurai clans of Tsushima, further story details are yet to be revealed.
The announcement trailer showcases Atsu wearing her ghost mask as she traverses the vast plains on her horse. She encounters a wolf that initially appears hostile, but as a tense standoff ensues, the wolf abruptly flees in the mistral towards an unknown destination. The wolf’s role in the plot remains uncertain, leaving speculation on its significance.
Ghost of Yotei marks Sucker Punch’s inaugural game designed exclusively for the PS5, leveraging the cutting-edge technology of the console. Players can expect enhanced visuals with expansive sight lines, allowing for breathtaking views of the environment, along with intricately detailed night skies adorned with stars and auroras. Additionally, the game will introduce new gameplay mechanics and weapons to elevate the overall gaming experience.
