We cherish our classic Nintendo wired controllers, but sometimes the need to play a game on a retro console like the NES from across the room arises. RetroTime, in collaboration with 8BitMods, has come up with a solution.
The NES HUB is a Bluetooth receiver that can be connected to the expansion port on the bottom of the NES, enabling wireless connectivity for up to four controllers. This is a significant enhancement for the NES, which originally supported only two wired controllers. The NES Four Score accessory allowed for up to four players on certain games like Bomberman 2, Gauntlet 2, and Jeopardy.
You can pre-order the NES HUB for $57 and it is expected to start shipping in December. Installation is simple and straightforward – remove the expansion port cover, plug in the HUB, attach the antenna to the console, and you’re good to go.
Furthermore, the HUB provides access to expansion audio for better sound quality in certain games and adds three additional ports for accessories like controllers. RetroTime also offers an SNES add-on for $26, allowing the use of SNES controllers through one of the extra NES HUB ports.
If you wish to configure the controls, you can connect the HUB via Bluetooth to your PC and use BlueRetro Config through Chrome.
