Astro Bot has just been released and is already generating a lot of buzz as one of the hottest games of the holiday season. To add to the excitement, there is a special edition DualSense controller inspired by the game. Curious if it’s worth the investment? We took it for a test drive to give you the scoop. It may be worth it for fans, but be aware that it may not look exactly as you expect in person.
The Astro Bot PlayStation 5 controller is a visually creative DualSense that stands out from the rest. It doesn’t just feature a decal or a unique color, but has intricate details like shiny blue stripes, robotic elements, and a distinctive pair of eyes on the touch pad.
What really caught my eye were the small design touches. The striking blue and white color scheme gives it a more vibrant look compared to the standard black and white DualSense. The light-blue accents on the face buttons and D-pad look particularly impressive under the translucent plastic.
I also appreciate the sculpting details on the controller. It’s not just a simple color swap; there are engraved markings on the bottom that give it a robotic shell appearance. The blue side grip pattern breaks away from the typical DualSense design, making it stand out on display. As an added bonus, the back of the controller features a cute silhouette of Astro’s face.
In person, the controller looks slightly different than in advertisements. The glossy finish and sparkly blue patterning give it a somewhat plasticky appearance, and fingerprints are more noticeable on it compared to other DualSense controllers.
The standout feature is the eye decal on the touch pad. While it may appear to be glowing in images, it is actually a flat decal that feels slightly less premium compared to the rest of the controller.
Despite some minor drawbacks, this special edition controller is a charming addition for Astro Bot enthusiasts and PS5 collectors alike. It adds a unique touch to your gaming setup and pays homage to one of PlayStation’s top series.
Astro Bot is now available on PS5, along with the Astro Bot DualSense controller.
