GamerSafer has acquired the Minehut server from SuperLeague, taking over a popular Minecraft server community.
Minehut, established in 2015, boasts millions of players and still maintains around 500,000 monthly active users, according to Rodrigo Tamellini, CEO of GamerSafer, in an interview with GamesBeat. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
“Minehut is not just an ordinary server. It functions as a hub connecting Minecraft servers hosted in various locations,” Tamellini mentioned. “This unique structure is a standout feature in the Minecraft ecosystem.”
GamerSafer, a safety tech company, recently launched the Official Minecraft Server. The Minehut community will continue as before with no changes to servers, hosting, gameplay, or the website. Further details on GamerSafer’s plans will be shared in due course.
“We have been developing safety tech solutions for gaming, particularly within the Minecraft community, for a few years now. Our close partnership with Microsoft and SuperLeague has made this acquisition a mutually beneficial move,” Tamellini explained.
With the inclusion of Minehut’s staff, GamerSafer now consists of 35 members. The news of the acquisition was first communicated via the Minehut Discord channel. SuperLeague previously acquired Minehut a few years back.
GamerSafer collaborates on other projects with Microsoft’s Mojang, the entity overseeing the Minecraft franchise. Trust and safety being paramount in the young Minecraft community, GamerSafer is well-positioned to be its guardian. Currently, GamerSafer protects over 15 million players across games and esports in 87 countries.
Tamellini, a former senior director at Intel in the gaming division, founded GamerSafer in 2018 as part of the Skydeck incubation program at the University of California, Berkeley.
