Gamecity Hamburg has introduced a new prototype funding program that offers up to €80,000 for the development of digital game prototypes. A total of €400,000 is allocated each year for participants in the Prototype Funding program.
Small and medium-sized start-ups and studios based in Hamburg are encouraged to apply for Prototype Funding through Gamecity Hamburg. The application period for the program begins on March 7 and runs until April 8, 2024.
Introducing a Diversity Checklist
As part of this funding initiative, Gamecity Hamburg is also launching a unique diversity checklist to promote diversity within team structures. The checklist includes a series of questions covering various aspects, from team composition to how a game addresses marginalized topics and characters.
Answering the Diversity Checklist is a mandatory part of the application process for Gamecity Hamburg’s Prototype Funding.
“Games have become the predominant medium of our time and have the power to showcase diverse voices, perspectives, and stories,” says Dennis Schoubye, head of Gamecity Hamburg.
Since its inception in 2020, the Prototype Funding program has supported 26 game projects with over €1,450,000. Notable recipients include indie studio Tiny Roar, which received prototype funding in 2022 for their world-building game “Wanderful.”
Developers and studios in Hamburg can apply for funding through the official website.
