Game Freak, the developer of Pokémon, has confirmed a major security breach where its servers were hacked leading to a significant data leak.
As reported by Game World Observer, the hacker released various data including personal information and company files related to both existing and upcoming games.
Game Freak also published a statement (in Japanese) acknowledging the breach and revealing that over 2,600 items containing names and email addresses of current, former, and contract employees were compromised.
Enhancing Security Measures
The Japanese company mentioned that it would reach out to those affected individually and reinforce its security protocols to prevent similar breaches in the future.
“We deeply regret the inconvenience and worry caused to all parties involved,” they stated.
In addition to the source code and beta builds, the leaked data included details on cancelled and unannounced Pokémon projects like a Splatoon-like multiplayer game. It also unveiled information on “Ounce,” the codename for the Nintendo Switch 2, along with concept art, sprites, and other assets, as reported by Eurogamer.
