Shortly after the conclusion of its run at Worlds 2024, G2 Esports has reached a verbal agreement with its new support, Labrov.
Labrov to Replace Mikyx on the 2025 G2 Lineup
The news was initially reported by Sheep Esports, who had earlier mentioned that Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle was allowed to explore his options without a buyout. In a short span of time, G2 appears to have selected their new support for the upcoming season.
Labros “Labrov” Papoutsaki has been a part of Team BDS since the start of the 2023 season, showcasing significant growth over the past two seasons. Alongside his teammate Yoon “Ice” Sang-hoon, Labrov formed a formidable bot lane duo in the LEC, playing a pivotal role for the Swiss team in all competitions. Despite not qualifying for Worlds this year, the team consistently performed well, finishing 4th in the LEC Season Finals.
According to Sheep Esports, Labrov was a sought-after free agent during the offseason, with several teams expressing interest in the talented Greek player. Aside from G2, Team Heretics, SK Gaming, GiantX, and Rogue were among the teams that considered signing the support player.
Further Changes Coming for G2?
Labrov will be joining G2’s lineup alongside Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik, Steven “Hans Sama” Liv, and Rasmus “Caps” Winther as the team aims to bounce back from missing out on a top 8 finish at Worlds for two consecutive years.
In addition to the support role, G2 is likely to make changes in the jungle position as well, considering that Martin “Yike” Sundelin was also permitted to explore other opportunities post their elimination. Among the potential candidates, Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan, Team BDS’ Academy jungler and one of the standout performers in the ERLs, is one of the most anticipated choices.
While Worlds is still ongoing, it appears that LEC teams are in a hurry to finalize their rosters. Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks.
