Fortnite has seen many mechanics come and go over the years, often tied to items like Chrome and Nitro. However, one game-wide mechanic that players have always desired to see return is the Siphon in Fortnite, a tool that rewards aggressive gameplay.
With the new Fortnite C5 S4 update, Siphon is back for a single player. For the second time in Chapter 5, it’s available to a lone player on the map. What exactly is Siphon in Fortnite and why is the medallion such a crucial item for players to obtain?

What is Siphon in Fortnite?
Siphon is a mechanic which has been utilized to counter the third-party problem in Fortnite gameplay. Picture this scenario: you’re engaged in a fight with another player, 90s are cranked, and eventually, a player meets their demise. Great, you have a moment to loot up and potentially heal off what they dropped. However, your fight likely attracted attention due to the noise it generated, leading to enemy players lurking around to take advantage of the aftermath of the battle.
The siphon in Fortnite addresses this issue. When you eliminate an opponent, you regain some health or shield. While it doesn’t provide an instant full heal, it offers you additional defense for when other players inevitably try to engage you after a fight. This mechanic encourages players to be more aggressive since it reduces the negative consequences of engaging in battles.
That’s the essence of the Siphon mechanic in Fortnite, but it had been absent from the game on a general level for a significant period. The medallions dropped by bosses in Chapter 5 now include one with the coveted siphon mechanic.
Siphon Medallion in Chapter 5 Season 4
This latest season features various medallions, including one with the valuable siphon ability. We previously encountered this in Chapter 5, season 2. In the current season, it is Doctor Doom’s medallion that awards Siphon. Here’s how you can acquire the coveted Siphon medallion in Fortnite:
- Head to Castle Doom
- Collect loot and proceed to the Throne Room

- Engage in a battle with Doom (Gradually deplete his health)
- Defeat Doom to obtain a Chapter 5 Mythic and his Medallion
- Pick up the Medallion

Once the Medallion is in your possession, you will automatically benefit from the siphon effect. Whenever you eliminate another player, you will receive a boost to your health or shield. This beneficial effect should aid you in securing victories in Fortnite matches. However, keep in mind that it reveals your position on the map and the Siphon mechanic only benefits you, not your squad. Proceed with caution while utilizing Siphon in Fortnite this season.
