Good news for Fortnite fans in Europe! The iOS version of the game is finally making a comeback after being unavailable for some time due to the legal battle between Apple and Epic Games. Although the lawsuit has been resolved, the game remained inaccessible on the app store. However, a recent regulatory change in Europe has paved the way for Fortnite to return to the iOS app store in that region.
Fortnite iOS Coming Back in Europe
Mobile players have been unable to access Fortnite for a significant period, limited to experiencing only up to Chapter 2 Season 2. However, with the game frozen in time and unavailable for download, players have been stuck looping around Chapter 2’s longest season. The recent rule change in Europe offers hope for change in this situation.
Following a dispute over sharing royalties for skin purchases, Epic Games removed Fortnite from the app store and lobbied for the allowance of “alternative app stores” by Apple. While Apple has not entirely conceded to this demand, a recent change in EU regulations has compelled them to permit other app stores in the region.
In this particular region, players will now have the ability to sideload apps, opening the door for Fortnite iOS to return. Although Apple may be displeased with this decision to open up its ecosystem, it has been mandated by regulators in the EU.
Epic Games has been advocating for Fortnite’s return to the app store, positioning the issue as a moral fight rather than solely a matter of sales percentages in the Fortnite item shop. The company has expressed its joy over the game’s return on Twitter, emphasizing to Apple that “the world is watching.”
Once the rule change is implemented, Fortnite will once again be available on mobile devices, specifically in Europe. While currently limited to Europe, it is anticipated that other regulatory bodies may eventually follow suit, potentially leading to a broader return for Fortnite.
