Interlagos Capital, a new venture founded by former senior SpaceX executive Tom Ochinero, SpaceX alum-turned-VC Achal Upadhyaya, and Sequoia finance leader Spencer Hemphill, has recently been incorporated in Delaware with a principal address in El Segundo, California.
Although details about Interlagos are scarce and the trio has not yet commented on their new venture, a trademark application for “Interlagos” filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office indicates that the company will focus on venture capital services and funding for emerging and start-up companies.
Ochinero’s departure from SpaceX in February marked the end of his successful ten-year tenure as senior vice president of commercial business. Now, he joins forces with Upadhyaya, who previously worked at SpaceX before venturing into investments, and Hemphill, who brings a decade of financial experience from Sequoia as the team prepares for their new venture.
The transition from senior roles at SpaceX to venture investing is not uncommon, with executives like Scott Nolan and Bulent Alton also making the move into the world of investments after their time at the space company.
