Finn “Finn” Wiestål, a top laner, has returned to the LEC and signed with Rogue for the second time in his career after finding himself without a team for the 2024 season. Following a loss to Team BDS that put Rogue at an 0-3 start in the Spring split, we caught up with Finn for a post-game interview.
Esports.net: What are your immediate thoughts following the loss to BDS?
Finn: Reflecting on the game, it was frustrating to see how we let it slip away. We had the advantage but failed to capitalize on it, showing that we still have a lot to work on in terms of our gameplay. It’s a wake-up call for us to improve and perform better in future matches.
Despite our struggles in the early game in the previous matches, this game showed that we can take the lead and need to learn how to close out games effectively. We need to overcome our stage fright and take control of the map when the opportunity arises to build on our strengths as a team.
Can you take the lead over BDS as a silver lining, something to build on?
Finn: Yes, seeing that we can secure a lead against strong opponents in scrimmages is encouraging. We need to address our issues in the early game and work on our mid-game decision-making to turn the tides in our favor.
Lee Jones: You’ve joined Rogue now after being teamless during Winter.
Were there other options last split that could’ve seen you competing then?
Finn: During the Winter break, I explored various opportunities with different teams, but none came to fruition. Left without a team, I made a decision to dedicate myself to improving as a player rather than pursuing other paths. I spent time in Korea honing my skills, leading to an opportunity to join Rogue for the Spring split. I’m here to give my best and strive for success in the league.
When talking to Rogue about joining, were there any specifics they asked of you to come on board?
Lee Jones: Did they have particular expectations regarding your playstyle or leadership within the team?
Finn: Rogue didn’t set specific demands, but I bring communication, strategy, and stability to the team. My goal is to improve our mid-game rotations and make the map easier to navigate for everyone. While we perform well in scrims, translating that success to the stage requires concerted effort. There’s a lot of work ahead of us, but we’re committed to making progress.
Did you think about sticking to broadcast work and focusing on that moving forward? Or were you certain that you wanted to continue playing?
Finn: I enjoyed my time in broadcasting and appreciated the chance to learn and grow in a new environment. However, my passion lies in playing competitively, and my ultimate goal is to win the LEC championship before considering other paths. I am fully dedicated to achieving that goal and will give my all to make it happen.
So I will do everything I can to reach that goal for now.
