Nuio, a newcomer in the peripherals industry, has introduced its inaugural product, the Nuio Flow. This innovative keyboard is designed to offer a blend of comfort, modularity, and customization. Created by ex-Apple employee Tom Wilson and his brother Greg Wilson, the Nuio Flow stands out as an ergonomic keyboard that prioritizes proper wrist alignment, making it a perfect choice for professionals, gamers, and individuals who spend prolonged periods typing.
The Nuio Flow exudes a sleek, minimalist aesthetic that could easily be mistaken for an Apple product. It caters to users who often experience fatigue or discomfort during long typing sessions.
By splitting the keyboard into two halves, users can adjust each side to align with their body’s natural posture, potentially reducing strain on the wrists, arms, and shoulders. This customizable positioning provides a more relaxed typing experience, particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) or carpal tunnel syndrome.
What truly distinguishes the Nuio Flow is its magnetic peripheral system. Users can easily attach and detach additional components like a trackpad, rotating stands, and wrist pads based on their needs. The magnetic connection allows for effortless reconfiguration of the keyboard setup, ideal for users who switch between tasks such as gaming, coding, or office work that benefit from different layouts.
The keyboard features proprietary rubber dome switches and custom backlit concave keycaps that mimic the feel and sound of a laptop keyboard. The keys are backlit in white, and the built-in battery has an impressive battery life of up to 28 days (which reduces to 10 days with four hours of backlight usage per day).
The included split USB-C cable can charge both halves simultaneously, and the keyboard connects wirelessly via Bluetooth to up to three devices, including PCs, Macs, or mobile devices.
While the introduction of Nuio into the peripheral market with the Flow keyboard addresses the growing demand for customizable ergonomic solutions, it comes with a premium price tag of $399, which may deter some prospective buyers.
Interested customers can now pre-order the Nuio Flow keyboard on the company’s website. It is currently available in space gray with macOS legends, set to ship in December. Those looking for Windows or dual OS legends, along with additional color options such as silver, gold, rose gold, blue, green, and brown, will have to wait until January.
Additionally, accessory options include the Flow Trackpad priced at $249, a small desk pad for $129, and pairs of stands and wrist pads each costing $99.
