Figure, an innovative robotics startup backed by OpenAI, has introduced its latest creation, the Figure 02 (F.02), a bipedal humanoid robot with groundbreaking features.
The primary purpose of the Figure 02 is to handle routine tasks on factory floors, but the company has teased the possibility of future applications as robo-butlers.

The Figure 02, according to Figure co-founder Brett Adcock, marks a complete redesign, featuring an exoskeleton architecture and integrated wiring. It boasts high torque capabilities at the shoulders, hips, and knees, along with advanced features like RGB cameras, extended battery life, and improved computational power for autonomous operation.
Equipped with sophisticated sensors, the Figure 02 has the ability to engage in direct conversations with humans, thanks to AI models developed in collaboration with OpenAI. Additionally, it utilizes a vision language model for enhanced visual processing and decision-making.
Founded in 2022, Figure aims to introduce a commercially viable general-purpose humanoid robot, similar to industry counterparts like Boston Dynamics and Agility Robotics. The company has already commenced testing its first-generation robots, Figure 01, at BMW’s production facility in South Carolina.
These robots currently handle tasks like moving parts within the facility but are expected to expand their capabilities to include sheet metal work and warehouse operations. The Figure 02 robots have now joined their predecessors on the factory floor, as depicted in the accompanying demo video.
