A startup named Diem, founded by Emma Bates (CEO) and Divia Singh (COO), aims to address the issue of gender bias that affects search engine results by creating a social search engine designed to cater to women and non-binary individuals. The app, available on web and mobile platforms, allows users to share personal stories and ask questions on various topics, such as sexual health, relationships, mental health, and body positivity. Users have the option to ask questions anonymously.
In addition to user-contributed content, Diem’s AI component summarizes answers from reputable sources through “a feminine lens.” The app recently introduced features such as “Nominate Your Friends,” “Spaces” (similar to subreddits), and “Daily Briefing.” Diem has also partnered with verified content providers specializing in reproductive health and plans to collaborate with other companies in finance and relationships in the future.
The nomination tool allows users to share questions directly with friends and grow the user base by requiring sign-up for participation. The “Spaces” feature, run by community members and inspired by popular posts, is set to officially launch soon, while the platform plans to introduce features such as “Recommended Reading” and an event feature. Diem also has plans for a monetization feature to pay users for their content contributions.
Diem was founded by Emma Bates and Divia Singh after Bates had a negative internet search experience when seeking experiences related to taking the morning-after pill. The company has raised $3.7 million, with Stellation Capital leading the most recent seed round, along with investments from other notable names in the industry.
