The PC market faced challenges in 2023 but is now on the rise, driven by various factors, especially the end-of-life for Windows 10.
According to Canalys, the transition to new Windows 11 PCs is driving growth in the U.S. PC market, with a 5% year-on-year increase in the first quarter of 2024 and a projected growth to 78 million units by 2025.
Canalys analyst Greg Davis stated, “Continued discounting post-holiday season has boosted consumer demand for PCs in 2024. Additionally, the commercial sector is showing increased performance, especially in small and medium businesses as the Windows 10 transition takes place. The outlook for the market is positive with enterprise customers expected to follow suit.”
The industry is banking on the end of Windows 10 to drive significant PC upgrades, with Windows 10 reaching its end-of-life in 2025. New chip introductions from Qualcomm, AMD, and Intel, along with the AI features they offer, are expected to contribute to continued growth. Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC program is also at the forefront of this momentum.
While the future remains uncertain, the strong growth in the first quarter of 2024 is a positive sign for the industry.
