Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, are set to launch their new open content marketplace, Fab, in mid-October, as a successor to the Unreal Engine marketplace.
After announcing the platform at GDC last year, Epic Games shared in a blog post that Fab will serve as “a unified destination where users can discover, purchase, sell, and share assets.”
This new platform, also replacing Sketchfab, ArtStation Marketplace, and Quixel, will offer an 88/12 revenue sharing model that benefits creators and helps them establish sustainable businesses.
An Upcoming Launch
In preparation for the launch of Fab, the Fab Publishing Portal will open in two phases. The first phase allows Unreal Engine Marketplace creators to transfer their products to Fab.
In early October, new publishers can register, and a migration tool will be provided for the Sketchfab community. The ArtStation Marketplace will be operational until 2025, allowing for the transfer of products to Fab.
Starting from the launch of Fab in mid-October until the end of 2024, publishers will receive 100% of revenue on Fab Standard-licensed product sales.
Additionally, there is a launch promotion in collaboration with Adobe, offering users who publish a Fab-licensed product or make a minimum purchase of $25 a free 6-month subscription to Adobe Substance Painter and Modeler.
