Epic Games is committed to expanding its mobile games store with up to 50 third-party titles by the end of 2024, offering a low fee for developers to join the platform.
During the Unreal Fest keynote, General Manager Steve Allison shared with mobilegamer.biz that they plan to introduce the free games program from the desktop app to mobile before the end of the year.
“In the holiday season, we’ll unveil our first third-party applications,” Allison stated. “We anticipate having between 10 and 50 titles ready.” The implementation of a payment solution for developers may delay this.
The Epic Games Store mobile app was launched on Android globally in August and on iOS in the EU with limited features, offering games like Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe. The company aims to expand to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, welcoming more developers to join.
One of the first third-party games announced for the store is Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition, set to arrive later this year. Developers using the Unreal Engine will benefit from a reduced 3.5% royalty fee on the Epic Games Store platform.
CEO Tim Sweeney and Epic Games have been vocal about challenging Apple and Google on their developer fees, pushing for a more open market for game developers. Recent legal battles have allowed Epic Games to re-enter these platforms and offer their store to a wider audience.
While the Epic Games Store is available on Android through the website, iOS users in the EU must follow a similar process to access the store.
