Epic Games has officially announced the return of Fortnite to iOS devices in the EU. Additionally, The Epic Games Store is coming to Android globally and iOS in the EU.
The store provides favorable terms for developers with a 12% fee for payments processed by Epic and 0% on third-party payments.
Epic has also confirmed that all its games will no longer be available on the Samsung Galaxy Store due to Samsung’s anti-competitive decision to block side-loading by default on its Android devices.
Expansion to Alternative Stores
Epic has revealed plans to release its mobile games on AltStore for iOS in the EU and intends to support at least two other third-party stores soon.
“We have introduced a new approach to releasing Epic’s games on mobile platforms, including the upcoming Epic Games Store for mobile and other independent mobile stores that offer fair terms to all developers, such as AltStore.io,” stated Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post.
Sweeney continued: “Regrettably, Fortnite and our other games will be departing from the Samsung Galaxy Store as a demonstration against their new policy of blocking side-loading, which inhibits users from installing competing stores. This is an issue we successfully championed in the Epic v Google antitrust case in the US.”
Epic has been a strong advocate for fair competition among app stores on both iOS and Android, and has made significant progress globally through Europe’s DMA, a recent victory in the Epic v Google lawsuit in the US, and Apple’s acceptance of the Epic App Store submission earlier this month.
