Elevate, a team from the Philippines, made history by winning the COD Mobile Summer Invitational (CDSI) 2024, putting an end to China’s reign of dominance in international tournaments.
The release of COD Mobile globally in October 2019 was followed by its arrival in China over a year later. Despite the delay, China quickly built a strong esports scene for the game. While initially struggling in international competitions, with Tribe winning the 2022 COD Mobile World Championship, China found success in 2023.
In 2023, China shone at the CDSI 2023, showcasing teams from China, SEA, and Japan. Douyu Gaming emerged victorious against Wolves in an all-China final, claiming the title. This momentum carried through to the year-end World Championship Finals, where Wolves secured another win. Subsequently, at the Snapdragon Mobile Masters 2024, Q9 triumphed for China.
China’s reputation as an esports powerhouse is evident across various titles, including COD Mobile. Elevate’s triumph at the CDSI 2024, especially in front of a home crowd, is a remarkable achievement given China’s dominance in the game.
Elevate’s Remarkable Journey to Victory at COD Mobile Summer Invitational 2024
Despite finishing third in the group stage, Elevate’s journey to victory was filled with challenges, navigating through the lower bracket of the Playoffs. They faced elimination in every match but managed to defeat the defending champions, Wolves, along the way.
Entering the Grand Finals as underdogs against the formidable Q9 from China, Elevate overcame the odds with a dominant 4-1 series victory at the Chengdu AG E-Sports Centre. Despite Q9’s home advantage and rest day, Elevate showcased their prowess on the international stage.
The upcoming 2024 World Championship Finals will feature both Elevate and Q9, set to take place at Dreamhack Atlanta from Oct. 4 to 6. Will China reclaim its supremacy or will Elevate continue their winning streak at the global level?
