Despite a 30% decline in profit compared to the same period last year, Electronic Arts managed to generate $280 million in profit during the first quarter of its 2025 fiscal year.
This is a significant drop from the $402 million profit recorded in Q1 2024, reflecting overall declines in revenue, live services, net bookings, and diluted earnings per share.
However, EA’s chairman and CEO, Andrew P. Wilson, described Q1 2025 as an “incredible” quarter, with results exceeding expectations and the mobile game EA Sports FC Mobile achieving record net bookings.
In the three months leading up to June 20th, 2024, EA reported a 13% year-on-year decline in revenue to $1.66 billion, with net bookings decreasing by 20% to $1.26 billion. While guidance projected net bookings of $1.25 billion, EA managed to outperform these expectations.
Although net bookings decreased, mainly due to a decline in full game sales, EA still surpassed its guidance, despite fewer new game releases during the period.
While live service revenue also dropped by 7%, from $1.48 billion in Q1 2024 to $1.41 billion in Q1 2025, certain individual titles like FC Online and Madden NFL 24 saw positive results.
Console and PC sales remained the strongest for EA, with console sales contributing $1 billion, PC $365 million, and mobile in third place at $290 million.
Wilson stated, “EA delivered a strong start to FY25, beating net bookings guidance as we continue to execute across our business. Our focus on delivering bigger, bolder, and more connected experiences for our players has never been sharper.”
EA’s executive VP and CFO, Stuart Canfield, emphasized the importance of mobile games as an entry point for the company’s major franchises, citing FC Mobile as a blueprint for their mobile strategy.
Despite paying over $60 million to senior executives in FY2024 and laying off 5% of staff, EA remains optimistic about the future and is committed to providing innovative gaming experiences for players.
