Techland made a surprise appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live to unveil the much-anticipated next installment in the popular open-world zombie franchise, Dying Light: The Beast. This upcoming game is slated to be a full, open-world sequel with a runtime of approximately 20 hours.
The Dying Light series, which started with the original title in 2015 followed by a sequel in 2022, garnered significant DLC support for its predecessor. However, Dying Light: The Beast will stand alone as a new entry in the franchise.
The teaser trailer showcases a group of soldiers navigating a dark forest at night, falling prey to an elusive attacker. Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the first Dying Light game and its expansions, is seen seeking vengeance in the newly introduced Castor Woods after enduring years of experimentation.
Gameplay teases a return to the series’ iconic first-person parkour mechanics, with potential new elements hinted at. Viewers catch glimpses of Crane’s agile movement across walls and a possible beastly transformation. The game’s melee combat remains brutal and intense, with firearms likely being scarce. Notably, stealth options are expanded with the inclusion of a bow and arrow.
Dying Light: The Beast does not have a confirmed release date yet but is expected to launch on multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Interested players can now wishlist the game on all platforms here.
