While Apple iWatch users have been enjoying it since October last year, the latest version of the popular WowMouse gesture-touch control app for Android smartwatches was launched today at Mobile World Congress by the Doublepoint startup.
Released at CES in January, the app is now compatible with Google’s Pixel Watch 2 and has already been downloaded around 30,000 times by Samsung Galaxy users since CES, according to the company.
Similar to the iWatch gestures, the WowMouse app turns your smartwatch into a ‘wrist-based’ mouse, allowing users to control headsets, phones, tablets, computers, and other devices via Bluetooth taps on the watch.
Founder Ohto Pentikäinen, speaking at the Four Years From Now section of MWC, mentioned, “Gestures are a major trend now, especially with Apple Vision Pro. We see people making gestures everywhere! What we do is make these gestures seamless and discreet, so you can do it on the go.”
He explained how the app picks up vibrations caused by your fingers touching, transmitting through tendons to the wrist, and detected by the gyroscope of the inertial measurement unit.
The WowMouse could also enhance gaming and interactive experiences on AR/VR headsets.
For developers, Doublepoint is offering preorders for its Evaluation Kit, containing a wristband, algorithms, and evaluation tools to test the gesture detection algorithm.
