Valve has rolled out a new Dota 2 update on March 6th, just two weeks after patch 7.35c’s balance changes. This latest update focuses on enhancing the Dota Plus service for Spring 2024, introducing experimental features in Dota Labs, and implementing measures to combat DDoS attacks. These initiatives aim to elevate the overall Dota 2 player experience.

Dota 2 Update: Enhancements to Dota Plus for Spring 2024

The newest iteration of Dota Plus includes several additions to the subscription service. Subscribers can now access a Spring 2024 treasure containing eight sets and a rare courier. Additionally, the update features a refreshed spring-themed map cosmetic, alongside new quests and rewards for guild members. While the cosmetic sets are described as common without extraordinary particle effects, they are a welcome addition for Dota Plus users looking to spend their points.

This update also introduces a new set for Earth Spirit, a gesture that long-time fans of the hero will surely appreciate. The sets from previous Dota Plus treasures are now available for redemption at the in-game Points Shop for 15,000 Dota Plus points, giving players a chance to acquire them.

Experiments in Dota Labs

The update introduces Dota Labs, providing developers with a sandbox to test experimental features within Dota 2. These trials include improvements such as a cleaner HUD around the mini-map and enhanced visibility for health bars. The goal is to gather player feedback on these new features to determine if they warrant further development.

Appreciating the Defenses against DDoS Attacks

Aside from in-game updates, Valve has detailed their efforts to strengthen defenses against DDoS attacks in Dota 2. These attacks disrupt matches by overwhelming servers, often leading to forfeited games without MMR loss or gain. To combat this, the developers have upgraded server infrastructure to hide game server IP addresses using proxies and relay systems. This strategic move makes it more challenging for attackers to disrupt game servers, ensuring a safer Dota 2 experience.

Looking Forward to the Crownfall Update in Dota 2

While the recent updates have brought numerous enhancements and security improvements, Dota 2 fans are eagerly anticipating the Crownfall update. Speculations suggest this update will introduce a new hero, the Ring Master, and feature storylines involving Vengeful Spirit and Skywrath Mage, along with their Arcana cosmetics. Traditionally, teasers from Wykrhm Reddy hint at upcoming updates, but the lack of teasers for the Crownfall update indicates it may be a while before its release.
