The highly anticipated Dota 2 Crownfall patch has finally been released. After a delay that allowed TeaGuv to spend 33 hours farming mangoes in his waiting room, the patch is here. The timing, just before the ESL One Birmingham Major, couldn’t be better.
What’s new in Dota 2 Crownfall?
Lore Dump
The four-part in-game event includes a huge lore dump comic to set the scene. The story revolves around Skywrath Mage and Vengeful Spirit teaming up with the winged god Scree’auk to take down Imperia, the sister of Vengeful Spirit.
Imperia’s identity remains a mystery, not to be mistaken for Akasha, the Queen of Pain. Speculation suggests she may become a new hero, similar to Primal Beast added to the game after being the final boss in Aghanim’s Labyrinth.
Stage two of Crownfall is set for release in May, with two more parts to follow, promising a lengthy journey with Crownfall.
Cavern Crawl is Back
Despite concerns over Dota 2 moving away from traditional battle passes, fans will be pleased to know that a substantial cavern crawl is part of the Dota 2 Crownfall patch. Featuring a new art style and paths for those who opt for the upgrade, the mechanics remain similar.
To progress through each stage, players must win games with specific heroes to earn Nuker tokens, which eliminate obstacles and allow advancement. Different heroes yield varying numbers of tokens per stage, creating a diverse gameplay experience.
Dota 2 Arcanas and Treasures
Skywrath Mage and Vengeful Spirit are the heroes receiving arcanas in this update. Notably, the arcanas come with alternate styles, with more unlocking as main quests are completed in later stages of the patch.
Moreover, both arcanas are currently purchasable for the standard price of $35 USD (£27 GBP), eliminating the need to grind battle pass levels. Additionally, themed treasures can be acquired for $2.50 each or $20 for a set of 9, all echoing the Crownfall narrative with a feathery theme.
The hero skins featured include the usual suspects like Crystal Maiden, as well as:
- Bloodseeker
- Jakiro
- Lina
- Disruptor
- Nature’s Prophet
- Legion Commander
- Queen of Pain
- Shadow Shaman
- Wraith King
- Silencer
- Meepo
- Puck
- Tinker
- Pugna
- Naga Siren
- Omniknight
- Keeper of the Light
- Ancient Apparition
- Hoodwink
- Zeus
- Drow Ranger
- Ursa
Ringmaster When?
Despite expectations, the new Dota 2 hero, Ringmaster, was not released alongside the Crownfall patch. Rumors from a February datamine suggested his presence, but details remain scarce. With a four-part event spanning multiple months, there’s still hope for Ringmaster’s debut.
For now, Dota 2 enthusiasts can enjoy the Crownfall patch and its in-game events!
