Sony has introduced several new features to the PS5, but one notable absence is a built-in web browser, unlike the PS4. Accessing the web directly from the home screen is not an option on the PS5, which may be disappointing to users who relied on this functionality in the past.
However, there is a workaround that allows users to access a limited web browser on the PS5 with some effort and creativity. Although not the most user-friendly browser, it is possible to surf the web on the next-gen console.
Here is how the web browser works on the PS5.
Does the PS5 have a web browser?
The PS5 lacks a traditional web browser similar to the PS4, making it challenging for users to browse websites easily. This omission can be frustrating for those accustomed to web browsing on their gaming consoles. While there is a convoluted method to access an extremely limited web browser by using the Twitter linking function in the settings, the effort required may not be worth the limited functionality.
To access the web browser, navigate to the Settings page on your PS5 and go to Users and Accounts. From there, select Linked Services and locate Twitter. By linking an account, you can open a basic web browser by clicking on the Twitter logo. However, the browser’s performance is subpar and not optimized for efficient use.
We do not recommend using the web browser for extensive browsing as the user experience with the DualSense controller is not optimal. Sony has indicated a lack of interest in adding an official web browser app to the PS5, believing that web functionality is not essential for gaming consoles. This means that PS5 users may need to rely on their older PS4 for web browsing, as official support for browsing on the PS5 is unlikely to be added.
