Descenders, an indie sports game from RageSquid and No More Robots, has become a hidden gem on Xbox Game Pass with its thrilling bike-riding gameplay and procedurally generated levels. Now, the eagerly awaited sequel, Descenders Next, shifts gears to focus on snowboarding and mountainboarding.
In Descenders Next, players can explore handcrafted parks or dynamically generated level “nodes” in various biomes. They can showcase their snowboarding and mountainboarding skills as they ride down the mountain, performing tricks and earning reputation points in the process.
Embracing multiplayer gameplay, Descenders Next allows players to enjoy every level with friends. With competition mainly coming from Steep, the game is set to fill a niche in the extreme sports genre.
The developers promise an array of customization options for riders and their gear, including items from well-known brands. Other features include a gameplay editing tool, a reputation system tied to progression, and a soundtrack by Monstercat. Mike Rose, No More Robots company director, hinted on X (formerly Twitter) that Descenders Next will expand to include more extreme sports over time.
Descenders Next is set for release on PC via Steam and Xbox Series X/S in 2025. It will also be included in the Xbox Game Pass catalog from day one, following the success of its predecessor on the subscription service.
