One of the challenges faced by individuals on the open social web is the ability to reach users across multiple platforms such as Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads with a single post. While there are third-party tools available, they are typically geared towards small businesses and creators, with high costs involved. To address this issue, a new cross-posting app called Croissant has been launched today, offering a cost-effective solution for cross-posting across various social services at just $2.99 per month.
The app was created by Ben McCarthy, a designer and developer based in Dublin, known for the popular camera app Obscura, in collaboration with Canadian iOS developer Aaron Vegh.
McCarthy explains, “I became frustrated with the cumbersome process of publishing a post with multiple images and alt text on different platforms. The back and forth between apps became inefficient and time-consuming. This led to the idea of creating a better solution.”
This led to the development of Croissant, which allows users to easily cross-post to Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads from their iPhone. The app supports various features such as threaded posts, image attachments, Alt Text on Mastodon and Bluesky, automatic drafts, content warnings on Mastodon, and audience options.
Croissant is optimized for iOS 18 and offers support for iOS 18’s tinted icons and custom app icons.
With plans to expand to other platforms and add features like scheduled posts and auto-complete for usernames and hashtags, Croissant aims to provide a seamless cross-posting experience for users.
The app is priced at $2.99 per month, $19.99 per year, or a one-time lifetime payment of $59.99, catering to individuals who use social media as part of their job but may not directly profit from it. Croissant aims to provide a solution for early adopters looking to engage across multiple social spaces effectively.
While tools like Croissant fill a current need, the future may see platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky bridging the gap, allowing for easier interaction between different social services. In the meantime, Croissant offers a convenient option for users looking to streamline their cross-posting efforts.
