LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, is exploring the world of gaming by introducing gaming features to its professional recruitment platform. According to TechCrunch, LinkedIn is working on a new gaming experience inspired by popular puzzle games like Wordle, set to include titles such as “Queens,” “Inference,” and “Crossclimb.”
Adding Fun and Engagement
A spokesperson mentioned to TechCrunch, “We’re experimenting with incorporating puzzle-based games on LinkedIn to bring some fun, enhance relationships, and encourage conversations. More updates to follow!”
Nima Owji shared on X that LinkedIn is considering a feature where player scores are organized, with companies being ranked in the games based on their employees’ scores.
With over a billion users, LinkedIn aims to gamify its platform to attract and retain more users, aligning with the thriving games industry. Although Microsoft’s involvement in LinkedIn’s gaming ventures remains unconfirmed, Microsoft’s influence within the gaming sector, notably with the recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard, is significant.
Gaming continues to be a top-performing category on mobile phones and PCs, with puzzle-based casual games particularly popular among users. Notably, in 2022, The New York Times acquired Wordle, a viral sensation that has retained a large player base integrated into their online puzzles and games platform.
LinkedIn has a diverse user base spanning 200 countries, with 65 million job seekers utilizing the platform weekly and employers in over 230 countries relying on LinkedIn Talent Solutions for their recruitment needs.
