Despite experiencing layoffs and the loss of key staff, the US office of the Korean developer and publisher Devsisters will remain open. There were rumors that the studio was closing down after several high-profile employees left, but an official statement from Devsisters USA confirms that the studio will continue operating.
Albert Chung, director of US operations & marketing, stated, “While it is true that we are facing a challenging period, the decision to reduce our workforce has been a strategic one to address our current financial challenges. I want to emphasize that we are not closing our US office. Devsisters USA remains committed to delivering quality entertainment to our fans and community.”
Devsisters, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, is best known for the Cookie Run series of games. The recent staff cuts appear to have been focused on the Devsisters US office. The Cookie Run series has achieved significant success, leading to spin-off games and a web series based on its characters.
Despite the layoffs, Devsisters remains a major player in the mobile game industry. Last year, their latest game, Cookie Run: Ovenbreak, attracted 45 million players in Korea, playing a significant role in their financial success.
Following the layoffs, several key staff members publicly announced their departure, including the former director of PR at Devsisters USA and the senior social media manager. This has led to an influx of talented individuals from various areas of specialization within the gaming industry, who are now available for hire.
