Remedy Entertainment, the developer behind 2019’s Control and acclaimed games like Alan Wake 2, now fully owns the rights to the Control franchise. This means the Finnish studio has complete control over the series’ future, including its sequel and multiplayer spin-off.
Previously, the rights to the franchise were held by 505 Games, a publisher known for titles like Ghostrunner 2 and Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. According to a message to investors, Remedy will pay 17 million euros to acquire all rights for Control 2 and a multiplayer project called Condor. 505 Games will remain the game’s publisher until December 31 of this year and handle business deals for the original Control until a later date.
Remedy CEO Tero Virtala stated, “As part of our long-term strategy to have greater ownership over our IPs, we now have full rights for Control and the upcoming projects Condor and Control 2. This ownership allows us to plan the future of the franchise with more freedom and explore partnerships with interested parties.”
With this move, Remedy Entertainment aims to have more direct influence over future Control games and explore new publishing partners for the upcoming titles. The 17 million euro payment is expected to benefit 505 Games’ parent company, Digital Bros, which faced layoffs last year to enhance operational efficiency.
Control 2 and Condor have not been publicly revealed and lack release dates at present. However, Virtala anticipates that these projects will reach advanced development stages in the first half of 2024.
