Cities: Skylines 2 developer Colossal Order has announced refunds for buyers of the Beach Properties DLC, along with delays in launching the Ultimate Edition, console ports, and its first expansion. The focus will now be on providing free updates and patches in the short term to improve the overall gaming experience.
In response to the negative reception of the initial release of Cities: Skylines 2, with criticisms of glitches and inferior quality compared to its predecessor, the developers are taking steps to address the issues. The launch of the $10 Beach Properties DLC in March further exacerbated the situation, leading to the decision to offer refunds to dissatisfied customers.
The team behind Cities: Skylines 2 acknowledged their mistakes and expressed regret for releasing an unfinished product. They are now dedicated to implementing necessary changes and prioritizing free updates and player feedback moving forward. This strategic shift will result in delays, such as the postponement of the Bridges and Ports expansion to 2025 and the rescheduling of the console releases to around October.
2024 will be a year of course correction for Cities: Skylines 2, focusing on improving the existing game rather than introducing new content through DLC and expansions.
