If you’re eagerly awaiting the Android 14 and Google Home updates for your Chromecast with Google TV, today is not the day for those. However, there is a new update that you should grab sooner rather than later.
Chromecast with Google TV is now moving from the July 1, 2024, security update to the September 1, 2024, security update, putting it a month ahead of the Google TV Streamer. The Google TV Streamer launched with Google Home features that allow you to control smart home devices directly from the interface.
While Chromecast with Google TV and Onn 4K Pro owners wait for the major update that will bring the Google Home Panel and Android 14 improvements, this incremental update is a welcome surprise.
Aside from the Home Panel, the update is also expected to introduce new AI background art options for creating computer-generated screensavers, a feature already present on Google TV Streamer.
While the Home Panel is the highlight for users, there are also various under-the-hood updates expected, consistent with the Google TV/Android TV platform. The overall Google TV interface should largely remain unchanged. When comparing Google TV Streamer to Chromecast, not many differences were found other than the Home Panel feature.
The software version for the new Chromecast update is STTL.240812.006.
