Google Chrome is enhancing its browsing experience by introducing tab groups and seamless tab syncing across all your devices.
In a bid to increase user engagement, Google is now bringing tab groups to iOS devices. By long-pressing on a tab in the Chrome app, users can create a new tab group or add it to an existing one. It is also possible to assign color codes to tab groups. This feature was first introduced on desktop in 2020 and later on Android. The aim is to achieve feature parity with Safari, which already has tab grouping capabilities.
With tab groups now available on iPhones and iPads, Google plans to sync them across devices. This will be particularly useful for scenarios like trip planning or accessing saved recipes from your desktop on your phone while in the kitchen.
Google is also experimenting with a feature that proactively suggests currently open tabs on other devices. This can help users easily continue reading an article or accessing a webpage across devices.
While the idea of tab group syncing and URL suggestions is appealing, these features have not been fully rolled out yet. It remains to be seen how well the handoff between devices will function once implemented.
