Bluesky is continuing to expand its user base rapidly, with the company recently announcing the addition of 3 million new users. This brings the total number of users on the platform to over 9 million.
Following a ban on X (formerly Twitter) by a Brazilian court, Bluesky experienced a significant increase in its user base, growing by around 50% in just a week. This surge in users propelled Bluesky to the number two spot on the free iPhone app charts in Brazil, second only to Meta’s Threads.
Bluesky also revealed that video support is on the way, addressing the needs of both new and existing users.
Originally created as a Twitter-backed initiative for an open social protocol, Bluesky has since transitioned into an independent, venture-backed startup. The platform became fully accessible to the public in February.
In a previous update on growth, Bluesky noted that 85% of its new users are from Brazil. The rapid influx of new users has occasionally caused technical issues on the platform.
