Natural language AI assistants are typically strong in English but struggle when it comes to switching between languages. However, a new AI assistant named Silvia has been developed to understand “Spanglish” and plans to support even more language combinations in the future.
Created by Mansidak Singh, Silvia was born from his observation of a common issue faced by people who fluidly switch between languages like English and Spanish. Singh, a product engineer at re:collect AI, decided to solve this problem by developing Silvia.
Silvia is a user-friendly app that seamlessly integrates into your keyboard, allowing you to speak in a mixture of languages and have it accurately typed out. While currently supporting Spanish and English, Silvia plans to add French, Romanian, Ukrainian, German, and Dutch language support soon, with a custom keyboard version also in the works for non-Apple apps.
Singh utilized advanced APIs like the Translation API in iOS 18 and OpenAI Whisper to create a lightning-fast and efficient language processing tool. Silvia does not store any user data and is officially approved by Apple.
Unlike many AI products claiming to revolutionize the world, Silvia simply aims to provide a more accurate reflection of the multilingual reality many of us live in. Look out for Silvia’s release at the end of the month here, or sign up to receive notifications if you tend to forget.
