The BGMI India Series (BGIS) is currently in the midst of its ‘The Grind’ stage, where 256 invited teams are competing. Unfortunately, one team has been disqualified for using ‘unauthorized software modifications,’ according to a statement by Krafton. The company is now considering further action.
In BGIS: The Grind, the top 256 teams in the country are competing in 16 groups until April 28 for direct slots to the BGIS Qualifiers.
Team Cannonboltz was part of Group 7, alongside fan-favorite iQOO Soul
Krafton mentioned in their statement that the disqualified team engaged in software modifications and collaborated with other players using cheating devices. While hacking was not explicitly mentioned, Krafton took the decision to disqualify the team from BGIS and is considering further action, potentially including bans from other events.
This swift action is a positive step, especially following hacking allegations in the previous BGIS event in 2023.
BGIS: Cannonboltz’s points to be redistributed within the group
Group 7 was mainly dominated by fan-favorite iQOO Soul, the organization with the previous roster of Blind Esports, winners of the Pro Series. Despite this, Cannonboltz was performing well, in third place with 28 points. Due to their disqualification, their points have been redistributed evenly among the other 15 teams, giving each team two extra points.
“This decision is to maintain the competitive balance within the group and ensure no team is unfairly disadvantaged by the exclusion of a competitor,” explained Krafton regarding the points redistribution.
Subsequently, all upcoming matches in the group will proceed with 15 teams and the revised points structure.
Once The Grind concludes, the BGIS Qualifier Rounds will commence on May 2. Following multiple qualifiers and semifinals, the top 16 teams will compete at the BGIS 2024 Grand Finals, with a LAN event at a secret location offering a prize pool of Rs. 20,000,000 (approximately $240,000).
